Inventory audit

See where your cash is stuck before it costs you a season.

An inventory audit is a one-off review of your actual inventory data that shows where your cash is tied up, which SKUs are about to stock out, and which are sitting too long. TheBrandSpur runs it for ecommerce brands across Amazon, Shopify, TikTok and retail, and returns a ranked list of fixes with the money attached to each one.

This is not a stock count. We are not checking whether your shelf matches your system. We are looking at what your inventory is doing to your cash — what you have over-bought, what you are about to run out of, and what the gap between those two is costing you every month it stays open.

What's included

What we look at

Eight things we look at, on your data, not a template.

Eight checks, one spreadsheet

  1. 01

    Cash tied up, by SKU

How much of your working capital is sitting in each SKU right now, ranked largest first. Most brands have never seen this number broken out.

  2. 02

    Stockout risk list

Which SKUs run out inside your supplier lead time, and what the lost revenue looks like if nothing changes.

  3. 03

    Overstock and slow movers

What is sitting past the point of being useful, how long it has been there, and what it costs you to keep holding it.

  4. 04

    Cover by SKU and channel

Weeks of stock on hand against real demand, so you can see the SKUs with four weeks and the ones with forty.

  5. 05

Reorder points against real lead times

Whether your current reorder triggers match what your suppliers actually deliver, or a number someone set once and never revisited.

  6. 06

    Landed cost check

Whether the unit cost you are planning against includes freight, duty and storage, or only what the supplier invoiced.

  7. 07

    Channel split

Where stock is allocated against where it is selling, and the SKUs that are out on one channel while sitting on another.

  8. 08

    Ranked fix list

Everything above turned into an ordered list of actions, each with the money attached, so you can start at the top.

How it works

How the audit works

Five steps · 3 business days max

  1. Step 1

    You answer a few questions

Revenue band, channels you sell on, and a couple of details about your catalog. Under two minutes.

  2. Step 2

You share read access to your data

Seller Central, Shopify, and your inventory sheet or system — whatever you have. Read-only is enough.

  3. Step 3

    We run the analysis

Your own numbers, not benchmarks. Three business days at most.

  4. Step 4

We walk you through it on a call

Findings, the ranked fix list, and what we would do first.

  5. Step 5

    You keep the output

No dashboard to log into, nothing to learn.

Who this is for

You probably need this if

Best fit

$1M–$50Ma year
2+channels
2+suppliers
  • Your best sellers stock out while your slow movers keep arriving
  • You cannot say, without opening three tabs, how much cash is sitting in inventory today
  • You are buying on gut feel because the data takes too long to pull
  • Storage fees have gone up and you are not sure which SKUs are causing it
  • You are planning a raise, a sale or a new channel and need the inventory position to be defensible

We work with ecommerce brands doing $1M to $50M a year, usually across more than one channel and more than one supplier. Below that, the audit tends to tell you things you already know.

How it differs

Inventory audit vs stock count vs cycle count

A stock count tells you what you have. An audit tells you whether it is the right stock, and what holding it is costing you.

How an inventory audit differs from a physical stock count and a cycle count
Comparison Physical stock count Cycle count Inventory audit (ours)
The question it answers Does what is on the shelf match what the system says? Are the counts for these SKUs accurate right now? Is your money in the right SKUs, and what is it costing you?
What it looks at Quantities on hand, across the whole warehouse Quantities on hand for a few SKUs or locations at a time Sales, stock, lead times and unit costs, by SKU and channel
Does anyone have to count stock? Yes, everything at once Yes, in small batches No. We work from your data
How often Usually once a year On a rolling schedule, weekly or monthly One-off, whenever you want a clear picture
Who normally runs it Your warehouse team or an outside counting firm Your warehouse or inventory team TheBrandSpur, working from your data
What you end up with A variance report and corrected book quantities Corrected counts and error rates by SKU or location A ranked fix list with the money attached, in a spreadsheet, plus a walkthrough call

These are different jobs, and some brands need both.

A stock count verifies that what you have recorded matches what is physically there. That is an accounting exercise. This audit assumes your counts are roughly right and asks a different question: is your money in the right SKUs, and what is it costing you when it is not.

Yes, and it is the normal case. Most brands come to us with stock levels in one place, costs in another, and supplier lead times in somebody's head. We work with what exists, flag what is missing, and tell you which gaps are distorting the numbers. You do not need to clean your inventory data before the audit — that is often one of the findings.

We sign an NDA before any access is shared. From there we only take read-only access, so nothing in your account can be changed by us at any point. We never need admin rights, and you can revoke the access the moment the audit is delivered. Your supplier names, costs and margins are not shared with anyone outside the team running your audit.

Yes, though the findings look different. On a single channel the audit focuses on cash tied up by SKU, reorder points against real supplier lead times, and what FBA storage is costing you on slow movers. The channel allocation side of the audit matters more once you are selling in more than one place.

Three business days at most, from the point you give us read access to your data. The questionnaire before that takes under two minutes. Once the analysis is done we book a walkthrough call to take you through the findings and the ranked fix list.

The audit is $1,500, charged once. That covers the full analysis on your own data, the ranked fix list, and the walkthrough call. There is no retainer attached and no obligation to continue afterwards. If the findings point to work you want us to run, that is priced separately.

The fix list is ranked, so you start at the top and stop wherever you want. Most brands act on the first three or four items themselves. If something needs ongoing work — forecasting, supplier renegotiation, a warehouse move — we can quote for that separately, but nothing in the audit depends on you doing it.
